I met Emmanuelle Laborit in a theater in the suburbs of Paris. At first we spoke to each other with our eyes, with our smiles, with our hand signs. It was by knowing her, by discovering her language, her fight that I increasingly wanted to create a show for and with her.
She is a fan of Michael Jackson, Nina Hagen, Alain Bashung and Callas. She tells me why. Their attitudes, their energy and imagines the grain of their voices. A creation for a deaf actress who sings.
Here we are immersed for three years in research on a stage language to which I invite Yan Raballand, choreographer, and the musical ensemble The Delano Orchestra, also based in Clermont-Ferrand.
The body will be the subject of our research. As in a lyrical recital, a popular ball, a rock concert or a musical monologue, this woman reveals herself and sings-signs her desires, her liberations, her wounds. She speaks of the ills of female bodies: sensual bodies, mistreated bodies, bodies masking buried feelings, liberated bodies. The musicians are the vibrations of her body, and the notes her thoughts.
Words become signs and are transformed into a choreographic, visual language, where each song becomes a fragment of a story that, little by little, allows us to immerse ourselves in the universe of this woman who cannot hear but who translates what her body feels.
